David Coleman

Vice President, Chief Risk Officer

David Coleman assumed the role of EBRD Vice President, Chief Risk Officer in March 2024.

His responsibilities include leading the team that manages the Risk Management Department, the Environmental and Sustainability Department and the Procurement Policy and Advisory Department. He also chairs the Risk Committee and leads the EBRD’s Crisis Management team at a time of greater geopolitical uncertainty. He is a member of the Executive Committee, the Operations Committee and the Asset and Liability Committee.

Mr Coleman joined the EBRD as Managing Director, Risk Management in January 2014, assuming responsibility for the Bank's credit risk, market risk, equity investment risk, operational risk and recovery activities. He has led multiyear projects across the Bank, including a Culture Change Programme, and chaired the Implementation Steering Group of a three-year broader change programme, deepening outsourcing, automation, agile working and improving efficiency. He is currently the sponsor of a number of change projects that form part of the EBRD’s Transformation Programme.

Before joining the EBRD, Mr Coleman had a 35-year career in retail, wholesale and investment banking at Deutsche Bank, Bankers Trust and NatWest. In September 2008, he was appointed Chief Risk Officer of the Investment Banking arm of RBS/NatWest Group, with responsibility for rebuilding the division's Risk Management and Compliance functions, until the bank decided to exit those businesses in 2013.

He is co-author of the risk management examination text for the Professional Risk Manager's International Association (PRMIA) and has served on the PRMIA global board for six years, including terms as Vice Chair and Chair.
